Go Bowling!
If you haven’t been bowling lately, you’re in for a big surprise. Gone are the dark, dingy, smoke-filled bowling “alleys” of years past. In their place you will find new facilities and bright renovations, professionally staffed and managed, that provide a safe, clean, supervised, and in may cases, alcohol and tobacco-free environment. Bowling is a fun, non-contact sport that has no age, size, strength or gender limitations. Participation in this family-friendly activity builds confidence, develops athletic ability, enhances social skills, teaches leadership and teamwork, and builds life-long friendships.
Centers nationwide offer professional instruction, organized leagues and competition, school teams and clubs, tournaments, awards, and scholarships! In fact, the bowling industry provides up to $10 million per year in scholarship money every year. BPAA’s Qubica International Family Tournament, the only major sporting event of its kind to offer international competition and scholarship prizes for family teams, celebrated its 27th year with an exciting National Final August 10-13 in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Participants competed in Parent/Youth or Parent/Teen divisions. National finalists won scholarship money and an expense paid trip to the event, which included such family-oriented activities as Texas Rangers baseball and Six Flags Over Texas amusement park. BPAA tournament organizers worked hard to make it possible for every youth advancing to the National Finals to receive scholarship money. For the third consecutive year the event was taped for future broadcast on Nickelodeon’s digital games and sports channel, GaSÒ. Additional Scholarships are available through local youth leagues, state and regional competitions, and bowling industry associations.
